Biography

Doug Lefler is an artist, feature film director and screenwriter.

He started making movies at the age of twelve and got his first professional job at sixteen (as an animator on a short film being produced at the Brooks Institute of Photography). 

He attended California Institute of the Arts for two years before being offered a job at Disney, where he worked as a sculptor, animator and storyboard artist on such films as THE BLACK CAULDRON and THE LITTLE MERMAID.  

He worked for many years as a screenwriter for feature films and television, and storyboarded over thirty live action feature films with such directors as Wolfgang Petersen, William Friedkin, and John Woo. 

Doug eventually became a second unit director for Sam Raimi on ARMY OF DARKNESS, A SIMPLE PLAN and SPIDER-MAN.   His numerous television directing credits include the pilot episodes of HERCULES and XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS.

He also directed DRAGONHEART: A NEW BEGINNING and THE LAST LEGION staring Colin Firth, Ben Kingsley and Ashwaria Rai.  Doug lives in Southern California with his wife and dogs, but works all over the world.
